Aristoc- |
The name Aristoc was registered in 1924 by A.E. Allen & Co, a hosiery company based in the Nottinghamshire village of Langley Mill. The company's position as pioneers in the industry called for an ambitious plan of expansion that would rely upon the quality of the brand. The first advertisement for Aristoc stockings appeared in 1926, "The Aristocrat of Silk Stockings", demonstrating the company's understanding of the importance of advertising and marketing activity from the very beginning. Dureing WW2 Aristoc provided space for the Ministry of Aircraft Production. Stock shortages that followed resulted in a system of fair shares for all customers large and small, which although as distasteful as rationing, created much goodwill between the company and its customers. 1954 saw the introduction of Aristoc's on-site dye house which not only saved on costs, as there was no longer a need to transport the dye, but improved quality with total control over the production of the stockings. Italian machinery manufacturers were developing a circular seam free knitting machine that was set to revolutionise the stockings business. Aristoc was fortunate enough to have the floorspace and could work with both types of machines. The first seam free machines were delivered into Langley Mill in 1959 signalling an age of unprecedented demand, with Aristoc representatives taking orders in one week for one month's production, often collecting production from the factory to take directly into stores. In 1967 that Aristoc first began producing tights using new techniques of joining separate bodies and legs. Aristoc was the first hosiery manufacturer to incorporate Lycra into its products. Ownership of the brand passed to Courtaulds in 1966 |

From the small German town of Mettingen near the border with the Netherlands, Clemens and August’s ancestors had long been successful traders in northern Holland, leaving the family farm in 1671 to sell their wares as travelling linen merchants. It was in Mettingen in the 1830s that Clemens and August were apprenticed as little more than boys to learn their trade.
In the 19th century at the height of the industrial revolution, C&A revolutionizes an industry and creates a new market of vast potential by offering affordable fashion. Pioneering spirit C&A Pioneering spirit By the start of the 20th Century, the foundations had been laid for C&A to play a major role in making the latest fashions accessible and affordable. 20th century The working and growing middle classes were demanding more choice and, using new production techniques and taking only a small profit per piece, C&A was able to offer ready-made fashion to a much larger proportion of the population who, until then, had not been able to afford it. Innovation was relentless, and the company pioneered the use of advertising and introduced the customer-friendly ability to return goods. Even though the margins were small, volumes were high and profits were reinvested into the business, allowing it to grow. It wasn’t long before the creative formula that was democratizing fashion in Holland started working just as well in Germany. A grand C&A store was opened on Berlin’s Alexanderplatz in 1911, launching C and A Germany in the process. Creativity remained important and customers saw the introduction of innovations such as self-service, mechanical cash registers, escalators and all manner of modern convenience. And of course, always the greatest choice of fashion at unbeatable value. The path of progress hasn’t always been smooth, however, and the company has faced many challenges over the years. After the Second World War, for instance, the focus was on rebuilding the business, which in Germany had been largely destroyed. Thankfully the post-war economic growth meant that recovery was swift, and building on its heritage of ingenuity, creativity and passion, C&A was able to grow to become one of Germany’s largest retailers. The following decades saw C&A expand throughout 20 European countries, as well as in the Americas (Brazil and Mexico) and Asia (China). In 2000, C&A announced its intention to withdraw from the British market, where it had been operating since 1922, and the last UK retail stores closed in 2001.[4] Primark bought 11 of the C&A stores.> |

As early as the 1920's, Germain Massal the founder made silk-stockings that he dispatched in luxury boxes to the Royal and Imperial Courts of Europe. This, the industrial story of the Massal family started and has lasted now for 3 generations. L'Arsoie has been rooted in the wild natural countryside of the Cevennes since that time. An hour's drive from the towns of Montpellier and Nîmes and the Mediterranean coast, the company is the last 100% French manufacturer. Knitting of genuine fully-fashioned stockings with 'Cotton' machines, 3D type. Flat knitting started in 1864; presently our 2 machines, Reading type, are the only 2 still running in Continental Europe from Gibraltar to Vladivostock. This artistic type of know-how was disappearing from the planet: we have been able to revive it — quite a challenge! Stockings knitted nowadays on fully-fashioned machines, 3 D type, are well-adapted to the shape of the leg, the meshes are identical from the top to the toe-end, they are perfectly-fitting and available in 5 sizes. Now we are able to recreate collections and special designs of stitches which had become an exclusivity for museums and private collectors. Our know-how has been recognized and classified as 'art work' Our genuine seam stocking 'Tentation' is the stocking of HAUTE COUTURE because: Literature about silk yarn dates back to the 16th century ; our region was devoted to silk worm breeding and silk mills developed together with the production of silk stockings to provide the Royal and Imperial courts. The CERVIN silk collection includes: a 100% silk stocking Cervin, a silk Stay-up with a wide siliconed lace top, silk knee-highs and socks. Our 'Champs Elysées' is a 20 den 100% natural silk stocking characterised by its elasticity at ankle level and an incomparable touch. Through the web, our know-how is exported throughout the world for the pleasure and satisfaction of our Customers.Established in 1920. |
